RIVERSIDE, CA – On February 21, 2023, Autism Behavior Services, Inc. (ABSI), an applied behavior analysis company, met with Riverside County Supervisor and IEHP Chairwoman Karen Spiegel to address access to care issues for children with autism. The meeting focused on the opportunities to increase access to care for applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy for children with autism who are covered by the Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP). ABA therapy is a proven and effective treatment for autism that can help children develop important life skills and improve their quality of life. Currently the CDC lists 1 in 44 children are diagnosed with autism and boys are 4 times as likely to be diagnosed.  However, access to this therapy can be limited for children due to a variety of issues from the labor shortage to limited training programs at the community colleges. ABSI is committed to improving access to care for children with autism in Riverside County and throughout California. The company is working closely with county officials, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders to identify and address the barriers to care that are preventing children from receiving the ABA therapy they need. “We are pleased to have had the opportunity to meet with Supervisor Spiegel to discuss the critical need for increased access to ABA therapy for children with autism,” said Eric Linder, Director of Government Affairs for Autism Behavior Services, Inc. “We are dedicated to working with the county and other stakeholders to address the barriers to care and ensure that children with autism receive the high-quality services they deserve.”
Supervisor Spiegel expressed her support for ABSI’s efforts and the need to increase access to care for children with autism. “We are grateful for the partnership of organizations like Autism Behavior Services, Inc. in addressing the critical access to care issues for children with Autism,” said Supervisor Spiegel. “I am committed to improving access to high-quality services for all residents of Riverside County, including those with autism.”
