Why choose
Autism Behavior Services, Inc.?

In 2010, Dr. Rosa Patterson, Psy.D, BCBA, LBA, QBA, established Autism Behavior Services, Inc. Driven by her dedication to assist neurodiverse individuals, she aimed to extend services to a broad audience. To achieve this, she collaborated with like-minded clinicians to design therapy programs tailored to the requirements of the families they assist. The formation of ABSI’s team was guided by the vision to make it a center where all, particularly families, view it as a hub for development and learning.

In our continued high quality pledge for helping children with Autism, we believe in the highest level of training for our therapists. All Behavior Technicians at ABSI receive their certification in CPR and as a behavior technician to ensure safety and premier therapy for your child with Autism.

Our behavior technicians are certified in CPR as well as ABAT or RBT.

"“ABSI took a genuine interest in the whole picture of who my child is. They created therapy programs for the long term.”"

Our behavior specialists and behavior intervention team are guided by a curriculum derived from the evidence based principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). We provide services that are delivered one to one in your home, community, or school setting and also offer social group services. We also offer virtual options in certain circumstances to aid in service delivery.

As Arizona Autism Behavior Specialists, ABSI develops age-appropriate goals that introduce and strengthen adaptive, cognitive, social-emotional, and behavioral skills; while our behavior intervention staff implements those goals day-to-day in a variety of settings. Ultimately, our goal is to increase behavioral deficits and decrease behavioral excesses.

In addition to building the essential learning to acquire skills, our behavior staff also promotes language development and play skills in real world environments. We strive to include activities that extend our clients’ knowledge and understanding of the world, promoting generalization across as many settings as possible. Our Arizona based staff further incorporates other research-based methods and strategies that have been found to be effective when working with people who are neurodiverse.

We are also committed to parent education and count on your active participation in your child’s services. As consistency is key, we offer parent training to help you better understand and support your child’s program and development.

Program Development & Supervision Services

Weekly visits and support by a behavior specialist or analyst with many years of experience in the field to provide quality oversight of all ABA-based programming.
A functional behavior assessment or FBA involves a behavior specialist gathering information and data on the environment and target behaviors in order to determine why behaviors are or are not happening and develop a person centered, behavior intervention plan based on that information. This assessment takes a whole person approach to how treatment is administered.
DTT (Discrete Trial Training) is a systematic approach to teaching that involves presenting specific stimuli and reinforcing specific responses. This helps us to establish stimulus control and provide many opportunities for practice and repetition of a skill. NET (Natural Environment Training) is just like it sounds as it involves teaching skills using an ABC (Antecedent -> Behavior -> Consequence) model of behavior during natural routines and activities. Technicians capture and contrive opportunities to teach specific skills or behaviors.
IEP goals and objectives are written with the whole person in mind to be objective, observable, and measurable. Our staff meets with your school in a collaborative way to work on goals that can best meet their needs.
Direct observations of target behaviors involve observing a client for a period of time in several different environments and recording detailed information on what happens before, during, and after the target behavior(s). The goal is to try and figure out what the antecedent is that is the catalyst for whatever behavior is being observed.
The principles of Applied Behavior Analysis can be taught to parents and caregivers. This will go a long way toward providing your loved one with a level of consistency that will aid in their behavior program.
Monthly observations and meetings, support on all task list topics, and guidance on ensuring proper documentation. Our Behavior Technicians are in constant communication with supervisors and family, so that everyone can be on the same page regarding your loved ones therapy and care.

Direct Intervention Services

Shadowing during in-person and, in some cases, virtual learning to support clients on school-based goals to help them get the most out of their learning environments. Our goal is to never have our technicians be velcroed to the person we are providing support for, but rather, like a coach, get to know them and assess what their level of need is.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientifically-based process that involves applying the principles of behavior to develop interventions that help individuals learn new skills and decrease challenging behavior. Our technicians and their highly qualified supervisors work directly with your family, so that you are a part of this process (and your loved one’s growth) every step of the way.
Direct observations of target behaviors involve observing a client for a period of time in several different environments and recording detailed information on what happens before, during, and after the target behavior occurs. This helps paint as broad a picture as possible of the person, so that their programs can truly reflect who they are.
Social skills can be taught using Skills Streaming or BST models of learning. These methods involve first providing clear instructions, then modeling the behavior, role-playing the situation, and then generalizing the skill to naturally occurring opportunities. The goal of these groups is to work on skills with, often, a happy by-product being the friendships and relationships being formed by the people in attendance.

FAQ

What form of behavior therapy works best for Autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the form of Behavioral Therapy that ABSI provides for Autism. Each therapy program is tailored to the client. The ultimate goal of this therapy is that the client will be able to generalize what they’ve learned across multiple environments. ABA is a way to manage behaviors so that people can engage more positively in their environments, while managing the challenging behaviors that might create issues for them. For many ABA Therapy can be profound and life-changing.

How can ABA therapy programs benefit my child?
ABA programs can benefit your child by providing person centered, evidence-based interventions that foster skill development, behavior management, and overall independence, tailored to your loved ones specific needs and promoting meaningful progress in various areas.
How do I get ABA services near me?

Once your child receives a diagnosis they can access ABA services by receiving a referral from their doctor. The next step is to request a list of providers from your health plan and always check to see if Autism Behavior Services is available. When checking for ABA services, have a list of questions to ask each provider with questions such as: Are all of your behavior technicians and autism specialists certified? You can check on the public registry to ensure that the individuals treating your child are certified. Should you have further questions please reach out to ABSI via our website or call 1(855) 581-0100.

What is one on one ABA Therapy?
One-on-one ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) therapy involves a highly individualized, person-centered approach where a trained Applied Behavior Analysis Technician (ABAT) works directly with a single client, utilizing applied behavior analysis techniques to address specific behavioral goals. As every person is different, there are also many different styles in which one on one ABA therapy is delivered.
Will ABA Therapy through telehealth be effective for my child?
Every person responds differently to ABA therapy. At ABSI we take a whole person approach to working with our clients, and in doing so have been successful supporting them in being productive members of their community.
How does remote ABA Therapy work?
Remote ABA Therapy is administered virtually on a set schedule that families agree to. This therapy is often done on a tablet or desktop computer depending which modality best fits the clients needs. Applied Behavior Analysis Technicians (ABATs) take data on the sessions and then review them with their clinical supervisors. The data is shared with the client and their family, and supervisors visit the client’s home once a quarter to assess further levels of need. The client’s therapy is never static and is constantly being reworked to promote the most person-centered, independent, and highest level of participation in their homes, schools, and community.
My family is very busy. Will ABA virtual therapy work around my family's schedule?
ABA virtual therapy is designed to work around your family’s busy schedule. It is set up to accommodate your families needs and can be reworked as necessary should schedules or other circumstances change.
Which insurance companies are partnered with ABSI in Arizona?
ABSI is in-network with Banner Health, United Healthcare, and Evernorth (Cigna) as well as most major insurance companies.
What is an Autism Behavior Specialist?

An individual that specializes in care of autism should be certified or licensed in ABA with a specialization in autism. The certifications a behavioral specialist should hold are one of the following: BCBA, BCaBA, QBA, or QASP S. The certified practitioner puts together a series of programs that allow the person to manage their challenging behaviors and gain new skills so that they can be as functional as possible in their communities.

What are some questions to ask a potential service provider?

Just as every need is different, so is every provider of ABA services. Some questions to ask are what is your company’s philosophy on Autism? What are some assessments you conduct to determine what my child needs? What kind of training does your staff have? Do your Autism Specialists also work with my child’s school and other service providers? Does your company use evidence based practices? There are many questions to answer when interviewing potential service providers. When you can align your needs with what a provider offers that will create an environment with the best outcomes for everyone.

How successful is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) in general?
ABA can be described as experiential. The more effort a family and their loved one puts into their specific program, the greater behavioral changes will be. Like any therapy, sometimes ABA doesn’t work for the participants, or maybe there are out of the box ways to bring across an ABA program that can make it more meaningful and significant. ABSI looks at all options.
